Tell us about your role.

I’m a housing superintendent managing a large housing maintenance contract covering over 1000 properties. I’m responsible for coordinating maintenance across all of the properties, which can be anything from getting a crew to fix a door, to managing the renovation of a property and dealing with builders, engineers and the council.

What is 1-1 coaching like?

To be honest I was a little wary of doing online learning and phone-based coaching. If you had of asked me before the program, I would have said my preference is face-to-face learning. But the coaching worked really well. Richard was great at getting me to open up and explain and made sure that I had a good grasp of the concepts and how they related to things in my role.

What did you get out of the program?

The biggest thing that I got out of the program was dealing with people. My role requires me to deal with a whole range of people, so it was incredibly helpful to learn techniques and strategies for communicating and dealing with different people.

What advice would you give to someone starting out with coaching?

I think the biggest thing is that you need to make sure that you are truthful and honest. You’re wasting your own time and the coaches time if you’re not. And don’t be afraid to ask questions. The more time went on, the more questions I asked, the more I got out of it.
